Ateljé Ginkgo is the museums newly refurbished space for creating, tasting and exploring. The studio is named after the ginkgo tree, a tree with a long history and great cultural significance.
Throughout the year, we offer courses and workshops for adults and teenagers – for beginners as well as more experienced craftspeople. Together, we explore exciting crafts, artistic techniques and materials from different parts of the world. See current activities further down the page.
When there are no scheduled activities in the studio, there is a reading corner for adults and a workspace for origami, with materials and instructions suitable for young adults and older.

Ginkgo biloba is one of the world’s oldest tree species, which, due to its extremely long history and ability to live for thousands of years, symbolises longevity, renewal and vitality. The tree is also associated with wisdom, and it is said that Confucius preached beneath a ginkgo tree.
When the atomic bombs were dropped on Japan in 1945, some ginkgo trees survived despite being close to the epicentre, which has made them a powerful symbol of hope, peace and survival. And last but not least, its two-part leaves often represent yin and yang, symbolising balance, gentleness and love.
